“…For This Day Is Holy…”
“Then Ezra said to them, “Go [your way], eat the rich festival food, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be worried, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and your stronghold.” Nehemiah 8:10 (AMP)
Today Nehemiah the governor and Ezra the priest read from the book of the law. If we understand in context that the children of Israel were exiled and have not read or heard the book of the law ever or in a very long time, and that on this day the book of the law (the Holy Bible) is read out loud and translated for the people to hear and understand makes this all the more significant. Then Ezra tells the people to go and eat and drink, for this day is holy, the scripture says, “Then Ezra said to them, “Go [your way], eat the rich festival food, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be worried, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and your stronghold.”
Today as we take a moment in our prayers, if we could imagine not hearing or reading the Holy Bible after a number of years because of being exiled, then it’s easy to understand the revelation that the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold. It’s made easy to understand that even after so many years of not hearing, reading, and understanding the richness and the goodness of the word God remains tremendously significant, but the joy of the Lord is our strength and stronghold, because, for this day is holy to our Lord!
