“…If It Pleases The King…”
“If it pleases the king, let a royal command be issued by him and let it be written in the laws of the Persians and Medes so that it cannot be repealed or modified, that Vashti is no longer to come before King Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal position to another who is better and more worthy than she.” Esther 1:19 (AMP)
Today we move into the book of Esther, this book introduces us to Queen Vashti and her rejection of King Ahasuerus invitation to appear. Today he makes a decree that pleases him, he makes a decree offered by Memucan, one of seven vice-regents of the Persian king. So after Queen Vashti rejects King Ahasuerus invitation to appear, Memucan offers the king a remedy, the scripture says, If it pleases the king, let a royal command be issued by him and let it be written in the laws of the Persians and Medes so that it cannot be repealed or modified, that Vashti is no longer to come before King Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal position to another who is better and more worthy than she.
Today as we take a moment in our prayers, let’s be reminded that the king has the earthly authority to replace anyone who rejects his invitation. Here in the life and story of Queen Vashti, the king was advised by Memucan to write a decree that would be written in law that could not be repealed or modified that would give Queen Vashti’s royal position to another who is better and more worthy. Today in our prayers let’s be wise and discerning of the timing of the Lord, let’s be in prayer for God’s positioning as the one who is better and more worthy, if it pleases the king!
