“…The People Of Nineveh Believed…”
“The people of Nineveh believed and trusted in God; and they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth [in penitent mourning], from the greatest even to the least of them.” Jonah 3:5 (Amp)
In today’s verse we find the prophet Jonah in the midst of a dynamic experience for God. He has just been thrown off a ship headed to Tarshish, swallowed by a big fish, and after three days in the fish he repents, prays to pay his vow, and God causes the fish to spit Jonah on dry land. Jonah arrives in Nineveh and he declares the judgement of God because of their wickedness, and the scripture says, “The people of Nineveh believed and trusted in God; and they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth [in penitent mourning], from the greatest even to the least of them.”
Today as we take a moment in our prayers, let us be reminded that God can reach the worst of sinners, just as He did through Jonah in Nineveh! God wants the chief of sinners to repent and be saved and He is the only one to transform the heart and soul to believe and trust and change from the greatest to the least!
Let us in our prayers ask the Lord to cause the change, His ability to believe and trust, so that the greatest and even the least sinner can come before God for salvation!
