“…Look Now Toward the Heavens…”
“And the Lord brought Abram outside [his tent into the night] and said, “Look now toward the heavens and count the stars—if you are able to count them.” Then He said to him, “So [numerous] shall your descendants be.” Genesis 15:5 (Amp)
Today we learn about the promise of Abram’s son, this is after Abram has a conversation with the Lord about having an heir, after expressing his concern to God about being childless, and the scripture says, And the Lord brought Abram outside [his tent into the night] and said, “Look now toward the heavens and count the stars—if you are able to count them.” Then He said to him, “So [numerous] shall your descendants be.”
Today’s verse reveals the Lord’s promise of a son to Abram, who will soon be re-named Abraham (Gen 17). God brought Abram outside his tent into the night and had him look from a different perspective, a different set of lenses in order to see on a greater level. The scripture says the Lord God said…Look now toward the heavens and count the stars – if you are able to count them. So numerous shall your descendants be.
Today as we take a moment in our prayers, as we take a moment in God’s word regarding His promise to Abram for a son, let us be reminded that this same God, sent His son Jesus some 2000 years ago to reconcile us to God, to reconcile our rightful place in the Lord!
So as we take a moment, let’s honor and praise God because we too are in that number, too numerous for Abram to count, but not too numerous for God to choose us thousands of years ago, so as the scripture says, let’s look now toward the heavens!
